Random Thoughts: Hollywood’s Summer of Doom, Wolverine Review And Iconic 9/11 Photo almost excluded from 9/11 Museum

The Wolverine (2013) PosterThis summer Hollywood is headed for disaster with all it’s blockbusters doing so poorly. So far the film business is 20% down from this time last year. One reason I think is the high price of tickets now with the special theaters showing 3-D and special I-max super stereo sound so more people are staying home. As my late father used to say, “Don’t patronize them and you’ll see prices come down”  and that’s when prices were cheap as compared to today and we thought they were expensive then. Everything’s relative I guess.

Well just when it looked like the summer of doom for a string of failed blockbusters that was languishing, along comes a blockbuster worth seeing and cheering  for,The Wolverine. For those of you not familiar with the Wolverine, he is a Marvel comic mutant super hero named Logan who is a loner who has anger management issues as he tries to deal with himself. He’s also immortal and can heal himself when stabbed or scratched which happens quite frequently to him. He’s got steel blades all through his body and can shoot out long sharp knife like blades from his kuckles he uses to fight off evildoers. He is a favorite among super hero fans and several movies have been made about him along with the other X-Men series of movies. Hugh Jackman plays The Wolverine and has said he enjoys playing this role. He said he had  to go on a special strict high protein low carbohydrate diet and intense work-outs in order to bulk up for the role.

This episode has Jackman receiving an in person invitation from a lovely young Japanesae girl whose very proficient in the martial arts to visit an old friend dying in Japan whose life he saved  during the Atom bomb in Nagasaki. The old man is now a rich industrialist who wants to buy  Wolverine’s immortality while his granddaughter who stands to inherit her grandfather’s  business goes on the run with kidnappers who want the old man’s fortune. The wolverine becomes embroiled in a conflict forcing him to confront his own demons.

There is lots of action and fight sequences for Jackman to use his famous steel claws with and  a super fight sequence (though extremely far fetched, but hat’s what makes these scenes exciting) on top of a high-speed Japanese bullet train going 300 mph that is like a syringe full of adrenalin. Adding evil sexiness to the movie and complication to Wolverine’s life is the sexy mutant villainess known as Viper with her own set of powers and a serpant like tongue to put her minons under her power. She readily appeals to most guys as she slinks and slithers her way through this epic in various skin tight vinyl outfits and long flowing blonde locks as she doles out her evil. There is great character development, lots of detail about Japanese culture and tons of action sequences featuring martial arts and saber slashing. So far this is at least one really good movie blockbuster in the summer of doom for blockbusters. Check out the trailer below.

In another topic, the famous picture of threee firemen raising the American flag fron the ashes of 9/11 was nearly excluded fromt he 9/11 museum because it wastoo rah-rah American.”  Michael Shulan, museum creative director and a few others on the committee considered the photo too “rah -rah and too kitschy.”  “I really believe that the way America will look best, the way we can really do best, is to not be Americans so vigilantly and so vehemently,” Shulan said. Eventually, chief curator Jan Ramirez proposed a compromise. The Franklin shot was minimized in favor of three different photos via three different angles of the flag-raising scene.

This is political correctness run amok once again and bowing to pressure from outside groups. We have always been a country that people from other countries came to better themselves and assimilate to our culture. That’s not true anymore as we have bent over backwards to appease too many cultures in the name of diversity mostly muslims and mexicans and other third world ccountries coming here that people coming here now are finding we are the same as the country they left. This is insane. Nothing is too rah rah American for me. Millions of our brave men and women fought and died for our America and the 9/11 photo to me represents  what America is all about. No matter what happens America will always rise fron the ashes.

Check out country singer Toby Keith with our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan doing his “rah-rah American “song “Courtesy of the red, white  an blue (the angry American)” which I can”t get enough of 🙂  Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American) – YouTube

Obama’s America: The U.S.S.of A.

  AmericaTombstone

th_Obama-angry-snearing-re-DirtyTricks

When the Soviet Union fell I remember saying at the time, “Watch it fall there and rise here.” Well under Obama that’s just what is happening. The government is now asking internet groups to send them all their user’s passwords which are encrypted. Even if they can’t do it, it’s scary that they even want to do it. It wouldn’t surprise me that Holder is behind this. On top of that they are creating what they call “the Hub” which is a huge database of every citizen’s social security numbers, healthcare records and any other information about us all in one massive database. This database will be held in the new building the NSA and government is building in Utah which will be bigger than the pentagon when finished.

This is truly scary and all part of Obama’s ” transforming America” as he stated. Part of Obamacare states that all healthcare records will go in one computer. With all the hackers out there do you really want your healthcare records made public by someone? Recently it was reported that state police and government can now track your car by photographing our license plate with cameras located on bridges and signs everywhere. Say good-bye to privacy. Say good-bye to the USA and hello to the U.S.S.of A., the United Socialist States of America.

I also believe that Obama’s further agenda is to make this a muslim state. He has appointed members of the Muslim Brotherhood to his staff and he himself is muslim by birth and grew up in Indonesia and hates America  as he blames America for the world’s problems. Remember when he went to Cairo and called us “arrogant and dismissive” towards them? This is all part of his”change” and  “Transformation of America.”

One of the reasons  Anthony Weiner’s wife Huma is still sticking by him is for power and muslim influence. She has ties with the muslim Brotherhood and her parents have ties with Al Queda. She was Hillary’s right hand woman. Who knows how much information she passed on to the MB and with Hillary’s help.

In his  speech at the University of Missouri this week, Obama called the current scandals ”phony.”

Phony??????  Like sending thousands of weapons to the drug cartels, kidnappers, murderers and drug dealers in the fast and furious scandals that killed border guard Brian Terry phony??? Just tell that to the families of the ones killed in Benghazi as phony. We still haven’t found out who gave the order for the troops to stand down and not help them, we still don’t know who said to blame it on a little unseen video, we still don’t know where the president was at the time. Phony??? Tell that to all the tea party and conservative groups that were targeted by the IRS and blamed on rogue agents in Cincinnati and now we find it came from within Obama’s administration at the WH. You’re the one who’s phony Barack or should I say Barry Sotero, as that’s your real name.

As Senator Orin Hatch recently said ,They act like they’re despots,”  The president is continuously doing things that he has no authority to do — and yet they just do it and they get away with it because many in the liberal media just will not hold them to account like they would a Republican president.”

I agree with David Limbaugh’s latest commentary I have excerpted below:

Sometimes I marvel at President Obama’s apparent lack of an embarrassment sensor. How can he stand before the American people and deliver speech after speech making the same tired points and pretending he is delivering the speech of the century?

Is he truly impervious to feelings of self-consciousness, or is he trying to play us for fools?

His speech at Knox College on the economy contained all the ingredients of a vintage Obama speech: much fanfare about little substance; a stunning distortion of his record across the board, especially on the economy; refusal to accept responsibility and blaming others for the problems he’s caused; his ludicrous portrayal of himself as an outsider pitted against the Washington political class he heads; predictable appeals to class warfare; tried-and-failed prescriptions for “growing the economy from the middle out”; his professed identification with the middle class, which his policies are devastating; his cynical dismissal as phony distractions of a raft of real administration scandals that would have brought other administrations to their knees; and an expression of affinity for government, not the American people, as the solution for all of our problems.

The upshot after Obama’s nearly five years in office is that the economy is still sluggish. Unemployment and annual deficits remain disturbingly high based on historical standards; our national debt and unfunded liabilities represent an existential threat to America; Obamacare hangs like an ominous tornado playground over the economy and every employer and health care consumer in the nation; America is in steady economic and military decline at the hands of a president who is in denial about it, indifferent to it or intentionally pursuing it; and the president and his renegade Justice Department and administrative agencies are riddled with scandals and gleefully flout the Constitution, the rule of law and the legislative branch.

Yet despite all of this, Obama tells us that everything is great and that things would be even better if it weren’t for partisan, obstructionist Republicans. (If the economy is so wonderful, why is Obama hopscotching the country trying to convince us of what should be self-evident?)

Obama’s refusal to accept responsibility for his policies and his scapegoating have reached comical proportions..

Obama no longer dazzles us with his smoke and mirrors; he bores us with them, droning on and on for more than an hour without offering any new ideas to turn the economy around — because he has none.

So don’t ever expect Obama’s soul mates in the liberal media to hold him accountable for his record or to compare it with that of other presidents. If it is worse, it will not be his fault. His failures will always be because of the “mess he inherited,” even though no other president has ever enjoyed that absurd luxury.

For all his hoopla about hope and change, Obama is nothing more than a gloom-and-doom liberal who doesn’t even aspire to robust economic growth. His sole focus is not on growing the economic pie but on redistributing what he believes is a finite one.

As long as Obama is in office and his policies are pursued, America will be shortchanging itself and suppressing the entrepreneurial spirit and liberty of the American people, without which America is destined for ongoing decline.

Obama: Trayvon Could Have been Me

America is on fire and Obama is pouring gasoline on the flames and using a giant wind machine known as a prèss conference to fan the flames.

At the beginning of the Zimmerman trial Obama stepped in it where he shouldn’t have and said if he “had a son he would look like Trayvon.” Now he’s upped it a step further saying Trayvon could have been him.  At Friday’s press conference Obama went into detail how black men have always been scrutinized by security in stores and how women would clutch their purses and hold their breath in an elevator if they got on with a black man until they got off. and how white people always lock their car doors when they see a black person. He also mentioned how he was often profiled on the streets before he was a senator. I ask you does this sound like a president of the United States to who wants to unite people or a race baiter in the streets bent on division?

This is pure anarchy that is happening now. President Obama and Eric Holder are responsible for this anarchy as is Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. They are agitating for a race war instead of improving relations. These men are all schooled in the Saul Alinsky  school of dividing America into a hostile racial gender and class warfare for their own power and agenda. For those of you not familiar with Saul Alinsky, he was self proclaimed communist here in the fifties and sixties who wrote a book called Rules for Radicals and dedicated it to Satan. Obama was schooled in his ideas. One rule was to” find a target, isolate it and destroy it.”

Yes, Obama is fermenting another civil war between whites and blacks, between haves and have-nots, and between producers and do-nothings.  He’s deliberately stirring up people over the outcome of this trial that wasn’t even about race, and should be utterly despised for it.  Trayvon Martin has not lived a life of privilege, but Obama has, and he was admitted to the best Ivy League universities.  Trayvon was not  “an innocent child” like the media likes saying but was a school drop-out, a thief, and a thug.  The only similarities between the two is that they both used drugs and that their pasts have both been covered up.The only other similarities is that both were sadly lacking in a decent upbringing and both lacked a moral compass.  There has already been property damage, bodily injury, and deaths as a result of this trial.  Obama shares the responsibility for it all.

Holder and co. say they want to bring civil rights charges against Zimmerman now and holder says he doesn’t want to give ZImmerman his gun back. Since Zimmerman was acquitted he has a right to have his gun back therefore by denying him his gun they are denying him his civil rights and he should sue them.

Another thing Obama mentioned was that if   “the teen had been white the outcome would have been different.” Well I hate to tell you this Mr. Obama, but that already has happened and  the  outcome wasn’t any different. Of course you won’t see this in the mainstream press.

Just outside Rochester New York recently a black man with a gun whose name was Roderick Scott shot a white teen named Christopher Cervini who was ransacking cars and who lunged at him when he saw him and his friends breaking into the cars.

Here’s a summary of what happened.

Scott says he acted in self defense when he confronted Cervini and two others saying they were stealing from neighbors cars. He told them he had a gun and ordered them to freeze and wait for police.

Scott says he shot Cervini twice when the victim charged toward him yelling he was going to get Scott.

Based on what I’ve been able to find, the jury reached the correct verdict in Scott’s case and found him innocent based on self defense just as they did in the Zimmerman trial.

I also understand why we haven’t heard a word from President Obama, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP or anything about expanded investigations from the Department of Justice.

That is called “hypocrisy”.

Liberals are always telling us that we need to have an honest conversation about race. Okay, so let’s be honest: Blacks are regarded with suspicion by whites (and other blacks) because they commit crimes in disproportionate numbers. And a major reason for that is that they are constantly told by black leaders like Sharpton ,Jackson and Obama that they are failing at life because white America has cheated them out of what is rightfully theirs and that they are entitled to get it back through programs that lavish other people’s money on them.

There are plenty of hard working, black people who have gotten where they were due to working hard and playing by the rules like everyone else who has succeeded and not listened to the race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson. Dr. Ben Carson comes to mind. A  genius children’s brain surgeon who grew up in poverty and became a world renowned surgeon. There are many blacks who are CEO’s of major companies like Herman Caine . So I don’t want to hear liberals say to blacks you need a program to succeed.

This week-end Al Sharpton is forming anti-Zimmerman rallys in 100  cities .I hope they are peaceful and don’t end  up in riots, death  and damage like already has happened in Oakland, Calif. or in Georgia, but I’m not holding my breath.

The Monkees in Concert. Yes,Those Monkees

Michael Nesmith 2013.jpg

I’ve just returned from seeing The  Monkees in concert at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, N.J. You may remember them from such classic songs as “Last Train to Clarksville,” “ I’m a Believer,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday” and many more. The Monkees consisted of Mike Nesmith who always wore a knit cap, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork and Englishman Davy Jones. Jones recently passed away from a heart attackat age 66 in 2012.

For those of you too young to remember them, The Monkees were a  group of four musicians brought together by a TV studio in the 60’s to do a half hour weekly TV musical comedy series based on a rock group like the Beatles at the time. It became a huge success and lasted several seasons. They can be seen on cable occasionally and DVD’s are available..

Each of the members split up and went their separate ways for many years. Mike Nesmith was the most successful on his own with several albums and videos that became very popular. Davy Jones appeared in several situation comedies on TV and Mickey and Peter went into solo gigs. They recently re-united in 2012 after Davy’s death.

At Wednesday night’s concert the audience was electrified and very receptive to them. The guys are all in their late 60’s and early 70’s now, but still in great shape. They started out with “Last Train to Clarksville”  showing  a video of a train from  one of their TV shows. The entire concert showed clips from their show as a back drop to their songs.

They had a seven piece band to back them up although each was very professional   in his own right. Mickey Dolenz alternated between singing lead vocals and some solo songs and playing the drums which he did really well. Peter Tork alternated between banjo and electric guitar and sang a few solo numbers. I had never heard Peter sing before and he had a great voice. I have heard that he used to have his own folk like show he used to tour with several years ago. Mike Nesmith had his lead guitar and did several solo numbers as well.

I was not familiar with a lot of their songs as they were taken from albums besides their hit songs and I wished they did more of their more familiar songs, but all were fantastic. Mickey did a great version of “I’m a Believer” saying it was written by Neil Diamond and said he sang it before Schrek did referring to the Disney character. 😀

At one point Mickey picked a woman from the audience to lead the audience in song to “Daydream Believer” which was a high point of the concert as the whole audience sang several choruses to the popular song.

The whole concert lasted a solid two hours non-stop and was thoroughly enjoyable. I’m sure Davy Jones is looking down at them saying,””Great  show guys.” 🙂

Below  I’m including a few linlks to their performances. The first two are from their tour last year and the last one is from their TV show in their hayday. Enjoy. 🙂

Wildwood, N.J. Post Sandy, Stronger Than the Storm

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve been going to Wildwood, N.J for many years now since my early childhood and have seen many changes there. This year my wife and I planned a week there with her sister, our niece and her three children ages 9, 2 and 4 months. I was curious as to what damage Wildwood endured from Sandy since it is located on the tip of New Jersey on the Atlantic Ocean.

When we go to Wildwood, we stay at a motel called The Jolly Roger which is one of the first motels built in Wildwood and quite lovely to this day. We inquired at the desk how they fared during the storm and were quite surprised that they had relatively little damage. The clerk told us they had to evacuate, but water only came up to the steps and nothing was damaged. This was surprising to us as they have tennis courts and shuffleboard courts in the front and they were not damaged. I guess the courts are water proof.

Several days later we ate at our favorite restaurant, Duffy’s, located on Sunset Lake in Wildwood where you can view the most beautiful sunsets from your table. I asked the manager there how they fared during the storm and he said Wildwood didn’t get it as bad as  places north of them such as Seaside ,but he did experience  some damage with the roof caving in and  floor damage. He said they had to reconstruct the roof and put in new carpets and repair  minor water damage all around.

Wildwood is a great place to visit and it is divided into three sections, North Wildwood, Wildwood and Wildwood Crest.”The Crest” being the nicest part. It is home to the widest, safest, cleanest beach in the world. The size of two football fields laid end to end so the walk out to the ocean is like crossing the Sahara desert.  I understand they do have a service where a special truck can pick you up from your motel and drive you to where you want. I didn’t see any of that this year, but in past years I have seen people being dropped off.

Wildwood is also the home of a two mile long boardwalk that has three piers with super duper water parks with their giant swirling water slides and more rides than Disneyworld. The boardwalk features many little shops, pizza parlors and t-shirt shops, plus a small boardwalk indoor mall. The boardwalk is known for their “tramcars” that are small trains that can take you to any part of the boardwalk for $2.50 each time. Everyone is familiar with hearing  the famous “Watch the tram car please” emit from them as they pass thru the crowds. I’m including a link below that shows you a tramcar ride and you can see  the many shops along the way and how crowded it gets.

If the boardwalk isn’t your thing, there are more quieter  things to do besides sunbathing or by your motel’s pool. There is always Hereford Lighthouse in North Wildwood with its’ beautiful, manicured, well maintained gardens, home of butterflies and birds they care for and a very nice museum history of the light and its’ former keepers and living quarters. After Hereford you can jot over to Cape May and see the famous Cape May lighthouse and visits some of their famous Victorian mansions. You can also take the Cape May Ferry over to Delaware and visit some of the shops there. That is a 70 minute ride and very safe and comfortable. You can spot dolphins along the way.

There are also sightseeing boat rides you can take that are dolphin watching, parasailing, and fabulous restaurants throughout Wildwood.

They hold fireworks on the boardwalk every Friday night which can be seen several miles away on the beach. We observed them this year and the beach was much more crowded at night than in the past, but it is so big you don’t feel claustraphobic.  After the grand finale, a group of about ten college guys in back of us chanted over and over ‘Stronger than the storm” “Stronger than the storm” which has become the Jersey shore’s theme. It was humorously fitting 🙂

Here’s a good video on the tramcar ride from 2008. Wildwood is stil the same at night.

Here’s a good video of the Cape May Lighthouse which I’ve climbed many times

Obama’s Son,The Media and The Verdict

I am sick and tired of the media referring toTrayvon Martin as a “child.” He was 17 years old, 6’2 ” and  a muscular 176 pounds . He had scrapes with the law in the past, has  been known to have screw drivers and  expensive jewelry and watches on him which he said he “found.”  His screen name on his facebook page was ‘Wild Nigga’ and all his friends said he had the best “plants” meaning marijuana plants. It is also known from his chats with friends on his facebook page that  they talked about mixing skittles and Arizona Ice Tea with codene from cough syrup to make a cocktail known as “lean.” This  is what he was buying the night he was shot.  No, he was not the innocent  child as the media portrays.

Sure it is a tragedy what happened, but I do believe it was self defense and Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara did an excellent job. Sure Zimmerman shouldn’t have gotten out of his car, but he did go back after a while. That’s when Trayvon approached him and said, “Do you have a problem?” When Zimerman said ‘No” that’s whenTrayvon said ,”Now you do” and punched him in the nose and threw him down  straddling him, punching him, banging his head against the cement saying,”You’re going to die tonite.” If I were Zimmerman I would have done the same thing if Ihad a gun and someone bigger than me was punching me while I’m on my back telling me I was going to die then. Zimmerman didn’t think he killed Martin at first and thought he just wounded him. He did the right thing and turned himself in right away.

For once I agree with Geraldo Rivera who said  Zimmerman was upset with all the break-ins and robberies in his neighborhood and people who were victimized. When he saw someone who fit the profile of the recent  thugs he phoned it in saying “These people always get away with it.” Geraldo also said Trayvon was also guilty of racial profiling when he told his girlfriend on the phone “There’s a crazy ass  cracker following me.”

Now so far everything is peaceful, except for the twitter people calling for racial violence and burning and looting, but these protestors I’ve seen being interviewed are missing the facts. All they see is is Zimerman killing this ‘innocent child”. They don’t see Trayvon throwing the first punch and approaching Zimmerman.

This is a non-racial incident that never should have been brought to the attention it received. I was glad  when I heard O’mara at the press confernce blame the media and told them they acted like a mad scientist over a body on a table without any anesthesia and that they took a story and ran with it without knowing all the facts.. It was the race obsessed media and Obama who made this a racial case. If this were a black on black crime there wouldn’t be any attention to it. In Chicago this year so far 75 kids have been killed by other black crimes and not a mention of that or how about the four black gang members in Georgia who beat a white man and threw his unconcious body in the road for a car to run over which it did. They were arrested, but not much attention in the media.

The race obsessed media was hoping for a white on black crime and when they found out Zimmerman was Hispanic (his mother is from Peru and his father is jewish) they quickly labled him a “white Hispanic” which there is no such thing. That’s like saying Obama is a “white black” since he is only half black not a full black like the media says.

Yes I ‘m glad Zimmerman got off and the system worked, but I fear for his life now from some fringe elements .I hope calm and good sense prevail.  Read how Alan Derswhowitz says the prosecutors shouid be disbarred. I agree with him.

Dershowitz: Zimmerman Prosecutors ‘Should Be Disbarred’

The jury has found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder or manslaughter in the death of Trayvon Martin.

The Lone Ranger

     File:TheLoneRanger2013Poster.jpg

In spite of the dismal reviews of the remake of The Lone Ranger,I actually enjoyed it better than  what most of the reviewers said. Directed by Gore Verbinski, Lone Ranger — based on the 1930s radio show and 1950s television series — posted a five-day opening of $48.9 million domestically, an abysmal number considering the film’s $250 million production budget and a worldwide marketing spend in the neighborhood of $175 million, the norm these days for many summer event pics.

The movie starring newcomer Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as Tonto is a combination of flip flopping around trying to be serious and comical at the same time.

The story is told in flashback by an ancient Tonto  (Johnny Depp) to a young boy in 1933 in a western museum display at a carnival. The older Tonto telling the story of him and the Lone Ranger in younger days was very reminiscent of Dustin Hoffman in Little Big Man and I thought the film could have been better served without this part and if it was a little shorter than its’ two hours and twenty minutes. The story starts out  with the same premise as the original with eight texas rangers out after outlaw Butch Cavendish only to be ambushed by his gang with the one ranger surviving who is found by Tonto and gives him the mask.

I thought Armie Hammer was a combination of being naieve, too straight laced and silly more like a Dudley Doright character than the original Lone Ranger. Johnny Depp as Tonto in white face make-up with black stripes and a stuffed crow on his head which he keeps feeding is more comical and smarter offering funny quips and one liners at appropriate times. Johnny displays some of his Captain Jack mannerisms from his Pirates of the Carribbean movies which are pleasant to see.

Wiliam Fichner is perfect as Butch Cavendish with his oddly scarred face, fang like gold tooth, scraggly hair and colorful villainous ways. I liked him better than the Lone Ranger and Tonto. He seems to be exactly like we’d imagine someone like him back then.

Helena Bonham Carter is the madam of an adult entertainment parlor is cool as the straight talking one ivory legged proprietor who uses her leg to hide a gun that shoots from the thigh and turns into a gun out of the heel of her shoe.

There is a really great train chase with lots of cars uncoupling and crashing into each other while the original Lone Ranger theme plays (The William Tell Overture.) At the end the Lone Ranger on his faithful white horse Silver says  the  famous  line ‘Hi Yo Silver Away” as Tonto says  sarcastically, “Don’t ever say that again.” 😀

As I mentioned above the film could have been better had they left out the old Tonto telling the story and limited it to a more serious story and shorter movie which is one reason it is probably doing so poorly. Check out the trailer below as it is better than the whole movie.
